The manufacturer D-Link has several models of IP cameras for video surveillance that are aimed at a professional audience, one of the best models they currently have is the D-Link DCS-4718E, an IP camera that will provide us 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) to record everything with the highest possible resolution and be able to zoom without the image becoming pixelated. This model of IP camera is really complete, and can be managed and viewed from the D-ViewCam program easily and quickly. Do you want to know all the features of this new camera model?
This new camera model is aimed at a professional environment, where we want to perform advanced video surveillance, since it has support for D-ViewCam, nothing to use the mydlink service that is oriented to domestic video surveillance IP cameras. This model can be viewed and managed centrally with this or other compatible software.
This professional IP camera has a 1/2.5” 8 Megapixel progressive CMOS sensor, so we will have 4K resolution at 20 FPS to see everything with the best possible resolution. This IP camera is capable of recording in complete darkness at a distance of up to 30 meters thanks to its infrared, it also has an ICR filter to activate and deactivate the camera’s infrared. By having such a high resolution, we have an 18x zoom, the minimum distance to an object is 0.5 meters, so it is specifically oriented to very wide environments. This model has a focal length of 3.3-12mm, an aperture of F1.4 and a horizontal viewing angle of 108º, a vertical viewing angle of 56º and a diagonal viewing angle of 125º.
Other very important features of this camera model is that it has IP66 certification against dust and water, this means that it is prepared for outdoor environments, and will be able to withstand inclement weather without any problem. In fact, D-Link indicates that it can withstand rain, humidity and temperatures between -30ºC and 50ºC, so we will not have any problem placing it outdoors. We must also take into account that it has different cables, we have the Ethernet connector with PoE support, the power connector and also a physical reset button for the IP camera.
This camera is of the bullet type, so we will have an adjustable mount on the wall, it also has a slot for micro SD cards that will allow us to store videos inside, in this way, we will have the possibility of later viewing all the images that have been recorded.
This professional IP camera allows you to configure the size of the image, the image quality, and even the frame rate and also the bitrate of the image, to adjust it to our needs. We must bear in mind that this camera has a Fast-Ethernet port, so we will never have a bitrate higher than 95Mbps, because the network interface itself prevents it. This model also allows you to set the time and any text overlaid on the image.
Other features that we can modify are the shutter speed, brightness, saturation, contrast, sharpness, and even configurable 3D filters. Of course, we will be able to configure an area for motion detection, and we will also be able to incorporate a privacy “mask” to pixelate a certain area. The built-in software also includes auto white balance, auto gain control, wide dynamic range with WDR, and we even have corridor mode.
Regarding video compression, we have two codecs, the H.265 which is the most efficient and will provide us with very good image quality and also a very low bitrate, and the typical H.264 which has very good quality but the bitrate is clearly higher. As for the photographs, we have JPEG as a format. We must bear in mind that the maximum resolution that this camera supports is 3840 x 2160 pixels at 20 FPS, so the videos recorded in this resolution take up a lot of space, and the same with the photographs that we can take.
Other very important features are the management of camera events, we will be able to configure motion detection, we will be able to receive multiple event notifications, event notification and snapshot uploads via email or FTP, we will also be able to record video events on the micro SD card, on the D-ViewCam, and on any D-Link NVR or ONVIF-compliant NAS server. Regarding the remote management of the camera, we can carry out this management through the D-ViewCam software that is completely free, we can also take snapshots and videos on demand, and even record on a local hard drive. Finally, we will have the possibility of accessing its web administration with a browser.
The centralized video surveillance management software from the manufacturer D-Link is perfectly compatible with this model, it supports all the administration functions provided in the configuration web interface, we can activate programming by movement, manual recording options, remote management of up to 64 cameras and simultaneous viewing of 64 cameras on the same screen.
This software will allow us to fully exploit the full potential of the D-Link DCS-4718E IP camera.
Unboxing and first impressions
At RedesZone we already have with us this professional IP camera with 4K resolution, the most advanced model we have tested so far, which makes it the most advanced IP camera for perimeters and outdoors, because it is capable of recording in complete darkness at a distance of up to 30 meters.
In the following video of the D-Link DCS-4718E you will be able to see everything that the box contains, and also the main parts of this professional IP camera for professional video surveillance.
Something that we must take into account is that this camera supports PoE, something completely normal in a professional IP camera, because switches configured specifically for video surveillance are generally used, where the video data is a priority over other data from the connected equipment. The consumption of this camera is around 8W, so if you are going to buy several cameras and use a PoE switch, you must properly size the PoE Budget that you have available, however, D-Link has PoE switches that are capable of providing more 130W without any problem.
