The battle between the big companies to launch the device with the best camera on the market is experiencing fierce as well as exciting moments. We know that the iPhone has traditionally been one of the best, but after being overtaken by other competitors, it has managed to climb back to the top with the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro. One of its rivals will be the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. , a device not exempt from controversy due to the veto of the United States to have Google services pre-installed. However, in the photographic field, this device has a lot to say. Will it surpass the iPhone 11 Pro or will it fall behind? In this post you can find out.
Does the iPhone 11 Pro take better photos than the Huawei Mate 30 Pro?
A priori, reading a table of characteristics does not have us to give a clear verdict about which device offers a better result in photography. After all, we live in a time in which the computational processing of these is important, and that is where the software comes in. However, we believe that it is important to put both devices in context before fully analyzing what they are capable of.
Broadly speaking, the main characteristics of the cameras of these devices are the following:
|iPhone 11Pro||Huawei Mate 30 Pro|
|Frontal camera||12 Mpx with f / 2.2 aperture, 4K recording at 60 fps and slow motion video 1080p at 120 fps||34 Mpx with f/2.0 aperture and TOF 3D sensor|
|rear cameras||-Wide angle: 12 Mpx with f/1.8 aperture.
-Ultra wide angle: 12 Mpx with opening f / 2.4.
-Telephoto lens: 12 Mpx with f/2.0 aperture.
-Double 2x optical zoom
-Video recording at 4K at 24, 30 or 60 fps.
|-Wide angle: 40 Mpx with f/1.6 aperture.
-Telephoto lens: 8 Mpx with f/2.4 aperture.
-Ultra wide angle: 40 Mpx with opening f / 1.8.
-3D TOF sensor
-Video recording at 4K 60fps, 1080p up to 120fps and ultra slow recording up to 7,680fps.
Obviously we find points where one is far superior to another. For example, the zoom of the iPhone 11 Pro is good but it falls far behind the Mate 30 Pro.
When one acquires a terminal, one does not usually expect very high performance from a front camera because the type of photographs we take with it is not the same as that of the main lenses. However, it is still important to have a certain quality for our selfies, even more so when it comes to such high-end terminals as the iPhone 11 Pro and the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.
In this section I must admit that I had very high expectations with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and I have seen myself disappointed. The front camera of the P30 Pro of this brand had left me somewhat cold and I imagined that it would be improved in the current terminal, but I hardly saw any improvement. Personally, I continue to stick with the front photos taken by the iPhone 11 Pro because, at least in my perception, deals better with colors and textures. Although I must admit that I still like the Huawei angle better. That yes, the blur in portrait mode the Chinese terminal performs better (despite the fact that in the test photograph the background was not blurred).
On most demanding conditions in low light I still felt that the iPhone did a better job, although here the two could be considered even, since the subsequent software treatment is quite similar in both cases.
And we come to the star part: the main cameras. In the Apple terminal we found a triple camera with a design that brought a lot of controversy when it began to leak. In the case of Huawei we see a quad camera in a circular package in the center of the device. Personally, I am not convinced by any of the designs, but the important thing is the photos that they are capable of taking.
On normal photographs, those that you take when you quickly remove the device and do not adjust any parameters or use any modality, I have not been able to keep any of the devices. Not because I don’t like them, on the contrary, they both do an excellent job as shown in the photo above. However, I think that depending on the scene and even the screen on which the result is displayed, I may like one or the other more.
At portrait mode This is where there are probably more discrepancies. I think this post in general is a very subjective from my point of view and that perceptions can vary depending on the preferences of each one. In my case, I prefer the blur of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, since I consider that it distinguishes the objective from the background very well. However, in general terms, I prefer the iPhone 11 Pro because I like the treatment it does with the color of the skin better. Of course, textures such as those of clothing are worked very well by the Huawei terminal.
The wide angle It is a newcomer to the iPhone and the truth is that it has done so through the front door. He has a larger viewing angle than the Mate 30 Pro and this can be a great advantage when you want to fit more objects or landscapes into a photo. But on the other hand I find that I like the color treatment Huawei, especially the color of the sky, which is shown in the photograph.
The night mode It is another of the most anticipated features of the iPhone 11 Pro and although the results are very satisfactory, I still find some drawbacks such as not being able to always set the exposure time as we please, although to be fair, we must recognize that the device knows how to calculate these well. time. In cases like the previous photograph, I am left with doubts about which one to choose; as he ground as what is found in it is very well treated in the case of the Huawei, but I like the iPhone better in the global calculation because of the background and colorswhich I consider more natural.
In this other photograph the opposite happens to me, and I like more how the iPhone 11 Pro treats the ground and how the Mate 30 Pro treats the lights of the street lamps and the houses that are in the background. This leaves me in conclusion how difficult it is to choose a terminal for this type of photos, since it can vary a lot depending on the situation in which its use is required.
On the ground of video I think that both devices have a lot to tell, since the iPhone 11 Pro is based on continuing to be one of the best in terms of recording and stabilization. However, Huawei has put all the meat on the grill for this section and has achieved amazing results, among which its ultra slow motion able to leave me with my mouth open. However, this is something more worth seeing on video, so a comparison will soon be published on our YouTube channel.
In short, it seems that we are facing two great rivals in terms of cameras. A good camera is important though When deciding to buy, other factors come into play. such as the preference of the iOS operating system over Android, the price of the terminals and even their design. Sections such as autonomy can also play a key role. In any case, that is part of other analyzes that we are not dealing with here. The analysis, as I said in previous lines, is subjective for each person and my personal opinion is neither more nor less relevant than that of anyone else who can test both teams.
IMHO I think I could be more than satisfied in the camera section with both the iPhone 11 Pro and the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. After having tested them for several weeks with the results shown in this post, I think they both deserve congratulations to both Apple and Huawei. I hope that after having seen this comparison you can have a clearer idea of which device you prefer in terms of camera, although my personal recommendation is that your curiosity does not end here and you can see the great reviews that other media are also doing.
